Leznar, Adam ; Hofman, Pavel (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This thesis discusses instruments that use nylon strings in the context of sound quality. The thesis briefly discusses the history of the instruments, where they can be encountered and where they fit within musical instruments. In addition, basic acoustical, physical and mathematical principles relevant to understanding the subject are described. Stankovic, Katarina ; BOUŠKOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; BRATELJEVIČ, Ana (referee)
Solo harp performance has gained a tendency towards playing solo piano works on harp. Because of the different technical properties of the two instruments, hence the different way of playing, each individual piano piece requires new solution and cannot solely rely on some previously established universal instruction regarding this matter.
Historical Development of the Harp in New Zealand
Doležilová Huangová, Jo-Chih ; BOUŠKOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; BRATELJEVIČ, Ana (referee)
This master's thesis is about the history of the harp and the harpists of New Zealand. Thanks to the journals of the Harp Society of New Zealand, information will be found out about who the Harp Society of New Zealand are, what is the purpose of their organisation and what are their past, current and future projects. Through the information found in the journals and the interviews conducted with New Zealand harpists and the family members of past harpists, there will be chapters that discuss the international harpists that toured New Zealand and the national harpists of the past and the present in New Zealand. There are also chapters that talk about the other important people who have contributed to the harp world in New Zealand. A comparison is also made between the life of a harpist from the past to a present-day harpist and that includes past and current teaching methods on the harp in New Zealand. To conclude this thesis, the final chapter will compare two solo harp pieces by two New Zealand composers. This comparison will show how these composers use the harp to create a unique voice to express New Zealand music.
New knowledge of the harp technique after my many years of studying in Prague.
Xing, Yan ; BOUŠKOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; BRATELJEVIČ, Ana (referee)
Abstract The main theme of my work is the description of the acquired knowledge in the study of the harp. During my stay in Prague, I compared my experience in studying Chinese traditional string instruments with technique and teaching the concert pedal harp in Europe. Based on my observations and my own practice, I found differences in the construction of the instrument, the technique of the game and the position of the hands in the game. Furthermore, the differences in notation related to the teaching methods of musical theory and listening exercises in the Czech Republic, which I did not meet in my country. No less important knowledge is the active release and methodical procedures for the composition of the compositions and their subsequent concert performance. The final summary of these findings is that all these aspects are closely related to the musical expression and thus form a single unit that helps to perfect the interpretation of music.

Greek and Roman musical instruments and their iconography
Waňousová, Lucie ; Ondřejová, Iva (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with ancient string and percussion instruments with additional focus on a hydraulic organ, an instrument that is difficult to categorize. The first part of the thesis is a follow-up to the bachelor thesis Wind Instruments of Ancient Greece and Rome, which is devoted to wind instruments, and deals with the classification, description and evolution of the instruments of the other two instrumental groups. This is illustrated on the background of literary, archaeological and iconographic sources, especially on the vase painting. Vase painting well demonstrates the shape, evolution and regional occurrence of these instruments. In the second part of this thesis the Attic and southern Italy vase paintings will be used to compare musical culture in both of these areas. In Attic music scenes the chronological evolution of depicted instruments is examined, while in southern Italian scenes we will concentrate on the differences of depicted instruments in the regions of Campania, Lucania, Sicily, Paestum and Apulia. Finally, the Attic musical instruments are compared with the instruments of southern Italy. The results of the analyses will be entered into graphs. Keywords: ancient music, strings instruments, percussion instruments, Greece, Southern Italy, Campania, Lucania, Apulia, Sicily,...

Rais, Věra Zdislava ; Mikulicová, Mlada (advisor) ; Hřebík, Josef (referee)
The Harp in the Old Testament and in the Culture of the Ancient Near East. This work reviews the chordophones of the harp and lyre categories and their use in the whole Ancient Near East, including Egypt. The structure of each chapter reflects the undertaken methodology: Each chapter opens with a review of available primary and secondary sources; it is divided in separate sections with archaeological and literary material. The review is followed by discussion of the social, religious and symbolic role of a harp in the given culture. Egypt, as well as Israel/Palestine region, is covered each by its own chapter; Mesopotamia, Akkad, Assyria and Babylonia are discussed together in single chapter. In Egypt, the harp play developed in immemorial tradition strongly anchored to the cult, as we can deduce from pictorial relics. Apart from the paintings depicting harp on religious occasions, it was portrayed (almost exclusively) during ceremonies of both intimate and public character. Other studied cultures offer much more wealth of information on their musical aspect. Mesopotamia developed musical notation, large number of sources give sound evidence for significant role of harp and lyre in the cult. Also in the region of today's Israel and Palestine, the chordophones became incorporated in local cult. The...
